14. Safety Committee.- (1) Every establishment employing five hundred or more workers shall constitute a Safety Committee consisting of representatives of employers and workers. (2) The Central Government may by general or special order specify varying threshold of workers for different classes of establishments issued from time to time. (3) The tenure of the Safety Committee shall be for three years and it shall meet at least once in every quarter. Provided that in the case of mines, the Safety Committee shall meet at least once in a month. (4) The Safety Committee shall be adequately and suitably informed of– a. potential safety and health hazards to which the workers may be exposed at workplace; and b. data on accidents as well as data resulting from surveillance of the working environment and of the health of employees of such establishments. (5) The employer shall, within fifteen days from the date of receipt of the recommendations of the Safety Committee take action to implement such recommendations.
